Meet Reuben

I’m Reuben, a piano teacher based in Underwood, Logan, with a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Piano and over three years of teaching experience. I have taught over 100 students of all ages, from complete beginners to advanced players.

My teaching is flexible and student-centred. I work with children, teenagers, and adults, adapting lessons to suit each student’s goals, learning style, and interests. While I specialise in jazz piano, I teach across classical, contemporary, and modern styles, and I’m not limited to any single genre or method.

Whether a student is learning for enjoyment, building strong musical foundations, or preparing for AMEB exams, my focus is always the same: keeping students motivated while helping them develop real musical understanding.

Lessons Designed for Your Goals

Beginners (All Ages)

Beginner lessons focus on strong foundations from the start. Students learn how to read music, develop good technique, understand rhythm, and feel comfortable at the piano. Lessons are structured, supportive, and designed to make learning enjoyable and confidence-building.

Intermediate & Advanced

For more experienced students, lessons expand into harmony, chords, stylistic awareness, and expressive playing. Improvisation and learning by ear are introduced where appropriate and for students who are interested, alongside classical and contemporary repertoire.

Children & Adults

Lessons are tailored to suit both children and adults. Younger students are guided through structured learning in an engaging way, while adult learners receive flexible lessons that respect their goals, pace, and musical interests.

All lessons are one-on-one and taught in person on a weekly basis. Lessons run year-round and do not follow the school term calendar. Students can choose 30, 45, or 60-minute lessons depending on their age, focus, and goals.

A Personal, Creative Approach to Learning Piano

Every student learns differently, and lessons are shaped around that. My approach combines structured learning - often using established piano method books - with flexibility to explore the music each student enjoys.

Reading music is usually the starting point, supported by an understanding of rhythm, harmony, and chords. For students who are interested and ready, improvisation and learning by ear are introduced to develop creativity and musical independence.

Enjoyment and motivation are the top priorities. When students enjoy their lessons, progress happens naturally and consistently.
